Allamanda Jump Start Block of the Month Sampler Quilt Project

COPYRIGHT 2010, ALLAMANDA QUILTERS.  ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Micki MacCumbee has volunteered to teach this wonderful sampler quilt; on the third Tuesday of every month.

The finished block size is 9" -- meaning that after piecing, each separate block will be about 9-1/2" square (leaving the 1/4" needed for seams all around).

Micki hopes that the group will do two blocks each month, starting with Block 1, Churn Dash, and Block 12, Roman Stripe [Ed: Cutting and sewing instructions distributed at April start-up meeting]

No special notions are required other than basic sewing/quilting tools.  New quilters are advised to invest in a good quality template plastic which will aid in block construction.  Cardboard will work fine, just is not as nice to use (especially if you want to "fussy" cut specific motifs from fabric).  Also, good cutting mats, rulers and rotary cutters just make quilting much more enjoyable.  There are tons of rulers to buy, and two of the most useful rulers are a 12-inch square and the long 6" x 18" ruler.  Since our blocks will piece to 9 1/2" square, having a square ruler that size would be a bonus although one will be available at each meeting.
