Allamanda Quilters Special Notices
Minutes, April 12, 2011 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by the President, Paula Mooney, at 1:04 p.m.
Secretary's Report: We dispensed with the reading of the minutes since they were previously distributed to the members via email. A printed copy of the minutes is available for review at each meeting if anyone is interested.
Treasurer's Report: The checking account balance on March 8th was $2,343.68. Receipts during the month totaled $99.00, and expenses for the month totaled $3.00. The ending balance April 12th is $2,439.68.
Membership Committee:The updated roster will be distributed monthly. We currently have 72 members.
Program Committee: Micki MacCumbee provided copies of the Guild's calendar outlining programs through the beginning of 2013. These were originally distributed at April's Guild meeting. Sharon Musch mentioned that Pat Knoechel (Eleanor Burns' sister) will be giving a trunk show on April 20th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Bridgeport Recreation Center. There is no admission fee for the show, but you are asked to bring 3 canned goods to be donated to local food banks. Sharon is currently taking sign-ups for any classes scheduled in 2011. Please take some time to look over the Guild's website to read about all the class offerings so that you don't miss something you'd like to take. If you have questions about any of the classes or would like to sign-up, members need to contact Sharon at sharonmusch@comcast.net or see her at a meeting to register.
In addition to the Guild classes listed above, Dale Angione will be teaching a Stack 'N Whack class for Allamanda members in May. The cost will be $10, and you must register with Sharon if you are interested. There is a limit of 20 students. Dale will present a lecture/workshop on May 3rd during our normal meeting time to discuss fabric selection and the quantity needed to make this type of quilt. The actual class will be held on May 17th.
2013 Showcase of Quilts: Allamanda was able to secure the same responsibilities for the 2013 Showcase that we performed at the 2011 Showcase. We will be responsible for Checking In & Checking Out quilts at the judging days as well as the Showcase itself. Sharon Hannahs is our representative on the Showcase committee, so if you have questions regarding the planning of the event, please see her at a future meeting.
Community Service: Carolyn Page provided patterns for members to use as they make the children's quilts as part of the Quilts For Kids program. Cotton material should be used. If you would like a pattern and weren't at the meeting, or if you have questions about this charity project, please contact Carolyn (carolynpage46@gmail.com).
Please remember that if you do any quilting related charity work we would like to know about it. Each chapter of the Guild keeps track of the charity work done by its members. Send an email to Cathy Barlow (cathybarlow56@yahoo.com) with the type of work you did and the charity that benefited from all your efforts!
Old Business:
June Guild Meeting - Allamanda will be the host chapter for the June Guild meeting. Volunteer names were taken at today's meeting.
Retreat - The Allamanda retreat will be held February 21-23, 2012 at the Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park. The group discussed the price of the retreat, which includes a nominal amount for the committee to purchase small gifts for those who attend. One option was to reduce the cost of the retreat and not purchase gifts, while the other option is to leave it the same as we've done the 2 previous years. Jo L. made a motion to keep the retreat cost the same as before so that small gifts could be included as part of the retreat package. Sharon M. seconded the motion. The motion carried. The cost of the retreat is $165 for a double (shared) room or $210 for a single room. Monique will need to pay the deposit for the retreat in June, and as of today, she only has 7 people registered. If you are planning on attending the retreat, please contact her (billfoley@bellsouth.net) for a registration form. A deposit of $50 will hold your spot! This is a great event, and if there is any way you can make it, you should try! There is good food and plenty of time for sewing and getting to know your fellow quilters a bit better!
New Business:
Web site - Marilyn P. provided a brief explanation of the Guild's new web site. The web address is www.qgotv.org. There is a ton of information on the site, including information about upcoming Guild classes and programs. Please take some time to explore the new site and all the useful features and information!
Name badge - Micki M. and Nancy W. have been working on a name badge that includes a picture of an Allamanda flower. Micki showed the group the sample that Nancy made. After a brief discussion, Jo L. moved that the chapter purchase the printer fabric so that Micki and Nancy can make the center piece of the name badge for members to use with their own fabric selection if they want to make the name badge. Micki seconded the motion, and the motion carried. Micki and Nancy will prepare packets with the printed fabric center and pattern, and they will distribute them at future meetings.
Membership Committee - Pat Smith has served as our Membership Chairperson in the past, but she finds that her travel schedule keeps her away from our meetings on a regular basis. We appreciate all the work she has done for us, but the group needs to select a new Membership Chairperson. Heather Farnell volunteered for the role, but she indicated she goes north in the summer. Jo Loder volunteered to do it while Heather is up north. Thanks ladies!
Several beautiful items were shared with the group during the show-and-tell time. Check out the pictures when they're up on the website! We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creativity of our members! The meeting was adjourned at 2:22 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
