  Allamanda Quilters Special Notices

Minutes, June 8, 2010 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Sharon Musch, at 1:07 p.m.

Secretary's Report - We dispensed with the reading of the minutes from the May 11th meeting since they had previously been sent to everyone via email. A motion to accept the minutes as submitted was made by Wanda Pierce and seconded by Dee Dean. The minutes were accepted as read.

Treasurer's Report - Janice Tingle read the treasurer's report. The checking account balance on May 11th was $744.08. Receipts during the month totaled $1,099, which includes deposits made by members for the February 2011 quilt retreat. Expenses for the month totaled $20, which was for payment of Guild dues for two new members. The ending balance on June 8th is $1,823.08.

Membership Committee - We currently have 81 members.

Program Committee - Members were reminded of the October class - Fantastic Fans. There is a correction to the information shared in last week's email regarding the Nancy Chong class in November. The Guild is offering only one class - Celtic Knot. They will not be offering the Hawaiian Appliqué class. Look for future announcements on how to enroll for these classes.
2011 Showcase of Quilts - (January 28-29, 2011) Many members have already picked up their Donation quilt tickets from Janice Tingle. She will hold the tickets that are still remaining and will begin to bring them back to meetings for you to pick up in September. She will not be distributing them over the summer because, since the Guild isn't meeting, there isn't any place to deposit your tickets once you have them.
Boutique - Please continue thinking of unique items that can be made and sold at the boutique to earn money for our chapter.

Old Business:
     1.    Quilt Retreat - February 15-17, 2011 - Eleven members are currently registered to attend the retreat. Jo is moving forward with the contract and deposit for the Life Enrichment Center. This is a really fun event. Please see Jo if you have questions or are interested in signing up!
     2.    Members were reminded to continue to save their scraps of fabric as they sew. Any size is acceptable. The scraps will be used with the boutique projects we'll be creating later in the year.
     3.    Paula had previously mentioned the Nancy Chong classes being hosted by the Quilting Sisters Guild in Leesburg in November. Unfortunately for us, the Hawaiian Appliqué class is filled with QS members, and there is no room for people outside the guild to register. There may be some openings in the Celtic Knot class, but we won't know for sure until June 10. An email will be sent with registration information if there is room. Members need to sign up ASAP after receiving the email because spots will most likely disappear quickly!
     4.    The Shop Hop Passport that was donated by Wanda Pierce will be raffled off at the June 22nd meeting. We will continue to sell tickets for the raffle right up until the time of the drawing. You do not need to be present to win. Please see Sharon Musch if you're interested in buying tickets.

New Business:
     1.    Marilyn mentioned that she has had some trouble getting all our photos and things on the Villages Guild's website due to her recent travels and the constraints placed on us by the Guild's webmaster. We are only permitted to submit things for the website once a month. Her plan is to get April, May, and June show-and-tell pictures on the website later this week. In the meantime, members can find their photos on Marilyn's website (www.myvillageclub.com and select Allamanda Quilt Chapter).
     2.    The email addresses of 3 members continue to be "undeliverable." No-one at the meeting recognized the names of these members. They will be contacted by phone to try to get a current email address. In the meantime, their email addresses are being deleted from the roster.
     3.    August 24th is a voting day, and the room we use for meetings will be in use as a precinct. There will be no meeting that day. We are currently working on organizing a day trip to visit 1 or 2 quilt shops, have lunch, and enjoy a day with other quilters. More information on this to follow, but block your calendar out for the whole day on the 24th if you think you'll be interested in this event.
     4.    Pat Smith shared with the group that she had gone on a quilting bus trip with a company called Senior Adventures. When she got on the bus, she realized that it was filled with quilters from Recreation Plantation. The ladies were very friendly and quickly included Pat in their group. She asked them to let her know if they planned any trips in the future, and they recently sent her a flyer describing a trip they'll be taking to Mary Jo's Cloth Store in North Carolina. Mary Jo's is a 32,000 square foot fabric and notion retail center that is filled to capacity with wonderful fabrics and notions at bargain prices! Those who have been say it's a great shop! This will be a 3-day trip (February 23-25, 2011), and the cost is $249 per person with double occupancy and $319 for single occupancy. The flyer for the trip and the registration form are attached to the minutes.
     5.    Members who were at the meeting signed get well cards for Carolyn Page and Jeanette Flint. Carolyn had 3 stents put in, and she is doing great! Hopefully, we'll see her soon at a meeting. Jeanette Flint is the Villages Guild's president, and she is recovering from a broken leg. Please keep both these ladies in your prayers.
     6.    Just a reminder to all members - Remember to show your membership card when shopping at Joanne's to receive a discount on your purchase! Yea!
     7.    Three members brought items for show-and-tell, and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the beautiful items and the creativity of our members! Heather Farnell brought in a casserole carryall that was really cute, and it sparked a conversation about how she made it in the classes that Micki MacCumbee holds at Seabreeze Recreation Centers. I checked with Micki, and her Fabric Fun Arts & Crafts classes are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 1-4 p.m.  Micki agreed to print up some flyers for her classes and have them available at the welcome table at our meetings.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
