  Allamanda Quilters Special Notices

Minutes, September 14, 2010 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Sharon Musch, at 1:00 p.m.

Secretary's Report - We dispensed with the reading of the minutes since they were previously distributed to the members via email. A printed copy of the minutes is available for review at each meeting if anyone is interested.

Treasurer's Report - Janice Tingle read the treasurer's report. The checking account balance on August 10th was $1,606.58. Receipts during the month totaled $34.00, and expenses for the month totaled $121.17. The ending balance on September 14th is $1,519.41.

Membership Committee - We had a new member join today, which brings our total membership to 80.

Program Committee - Nothing new to report. Sharon reminded members about the October 5 Fantastic Fans class, as well as the November 16 Hawaiian appliqué class by Nancy Chong. If anyone is interested in attending either of these classes, they should contact Sharon Musch. The members were also reminded about the two Guild meetings scheduled for November - the regular Guild meeting on November 2 where Material Girl will provide the program, and the November 16 presentation and trunk show by Nancy Chong at La Hacienda.

2011 Showcase of Quilts - (January 28-29, 2011) While many members have already picked up their Donation quilt tickets from Janice Tingle, she is continuing to hold the tickets that are still remaining. She will bring the tickets to all future meetings, and members are encouraged to pick theirs up as soon as they are able. The cost of the tickets was included in your annual dues, so you have already paid for them.
The deadline to submit entry forms for showing a quilt at the Showcase was extended until October 5th. A picture of your quilt must accompany the entry form. If anyone needs assistance with getting a picture of their quilt, please contact Marilyn Paluszak. She is willing to take a picture for you if you can bring your quilt to one of our meetings. It is very important to select the appropriate category for your quilt. It will not be judged if you don't select the right category. If you have any questions about selecting a category, please see Paula. You also must follow the directions exactly as stated on the form when it comes time to submit your quilt. You may want to copy the registration form before you submit it so that you have a copy of the directions available when it comes time to submit your quilt. Cathy Barlow will be collecting entry forms for our chapter through September 28th. After that date, please submit your form to Sharon Musch, who will be turning in all our forms at the October 5th Guild meeting.
The Showcase is accepting antique quilts for the show, but there were questions about whether or not the same form being used for other quilts should be used for the antique quilts and if they were subject to the same deadline of October 5th. The Showcase Committee did not meet over the summer, but they are scheduled to meet October 1st. In the meantime, Janice Bartus will send a couple of emails to see if we can get our questions answered. Please watch your weekly email updates for information on this subject.

Old Business:
1.    Quilt Retreat - February 15-17, 2011 - Registration forms are available at the welcome table at each meeting. Please see Jo Loder if you have questions or are interested in signing up!

New Business:
1.    Allamanda 50/50 - Jan Morrow, who normally handles the 50/50 ticket sales and drawing at each meeting, will not be able to attend our meetings for a while. Dee Dean volunteered to fill in for Jan until she returns.
2.    October 5th Guild Meeting - Allamanda chapter is responsible for hosting duties. We need 1 person for the Sign In/Welcome table, 1 person for the Show-and-Tell sign up table, 1 person to distribute tickets to those who arrive with name tags, 2 people to sell 50/50 tickets and handle the drawing, and 2 people to distribute door prizes and gift certificates. Volunteers: BJ Herter - Welcome Table; Janice Bartus - Show & Tell Sign-up; Dee Dean - Name Tags & Tickets; Nancy Wilcox & Carole Walters - Distribute Door Prizes & Gift Certificates; Jo Loder & Marilyn Paluszak - 50/50 Tickets & Prize Distribution
3.    Officer Nominations for 2011-2012 - We need to elect a new VP and Secretary. Anyone interested in filling either of these positions is encouraged to contact Micki MacCumbee, Wanda Pierce, or Janice Tingle.
4.    November 2nd Shop Hop - Our meeting space will be used as a voting precinct on this day, and there has been interest in having another shop hop. We need a volunteer to take the lead on organizing this day. Please contact Cathy Barlow if you'd like to take the lead on this event.
5.    Oxford Community Festival - Wanda Pierce asked that we mention this local fund raiser to be held on October 23 from 4-8 p.m. It is the town's only fund raiser for the Pine Level Cemetery. They will be having a silent auction at the festival, and they are looking for donations of quilted items. If anyone has questions or is interested in donating anything, they should contact Wanda directly.
6.    Quilting Sisters LaTiDa Luncheon - February 12, 2011 - Tickets for this wonderful event go on sale December 1st. The luncheon will be held at La Hacienda, and in addition to the luncheon, there is a fashion show that includes items from Coldwater Creek as well as fashions sewn by members of the guild. There will also be a boutique and silent auction. Ticket price is $25.00, and this event usually sells out early. Don't hesitate… it might be fun to get a table of Allamanda ladies there!

Announcements:
1.    Wanda Pierce's husband is having angioplasty today. Please keep them both in your prayers.
2.    BJ Herter shared pictures of the donation quilt that her Milford Valley Quilt Guild is raffling off in July 2011. It is a queen size Baltimore Album quilt that is all done by hand. BJ has a beautiful block in it, and the quilt looks absolutely amazing. She has raffle tickets available for $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. She'll have the tickets with her at future meetings, so please see her if you are interested.

Several beautiful items were shared with the group during the show-and-tell time. Check out the pictures when they're up on our website! We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creativity of our members!

The meeting was adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
