Allamanda Quilters Special Notices
Minutes, November 9, 2010 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by the President, Paula Mooney, at 1:03 p.m.
Secretary's Report - We dispensed with the reading of the minutes since they were previously distributed to the members via email. A printed copy of the minutes is available for review at each meeting if anyone is interested.
Treasurer's Report - Janice provided the treasurer's report. The checking account balance on October 12th was $1,586.91. Receipts during the month totaled $640.50, and there were no expenses for the month. The ending balance on November 9th is $2,227.41. The balance includes Retreat funds as well as 2011 dues money that needs to be paid to the Guild.
Membership Committee - We've had several new members join over the last few weeks. Their names and contact information have been added to the roster, which is updated and distributed monthly with the minutes from the business meeting.
Program Committee - Sharon Musch provided an overview of upcoming Guild classes (see list below). The Guild isn't officially accepting registrations for the 2011 classes at the moment, but if anyone is interested in any of the classes, they need to contact Sharon at sharonmusch@comcast.net so that she is prepared to submit names when registration opens.

2011 Showcase of Quilts - (January 28-29, 2011)
Jan Bartus provided sign-up sheets for volunteers at the Showcase. Our chapter's responsibility at Showcase 2011 is to partner with the Friendship Star chapter to check-in and check-out quilts. Volunteers are needed all day for the judging days of January 13-14 at Laurel Manor. Volunteers are also needed to check-in quilts for Showcase 2011 at Savannah Center on January 27 from 7-10 a.m. and check-out the quilts at the end of Showcase 2011 on January 29 from 4-6 p.m. Once a quilt has been checked-in by a Friendship Star member, we are responsible for taking the quilt to the judging area and placing it on the correct table. We then need to remove it from the bag and pin the bag to the back of the quilt, covering all identifying information. We also need to ensure that all quilts are organized numerically within category. When the judges are ready for the quilts, we will take them to the judges. When they are finished being judged, we will return them to the correct table, put them back in the bag, and give them to Friendship Star members, who will distribute the quilts back to the original owners. There are still a few time slots available for volunteers. Please consider helping our chapter by giving a few hours of your time to this very worthwhile event.
Please watch your weekly email updates and business meeting minutes for more information on this subject.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Quilt Retreat - February 15-17, 2011 - Registration forms are available at the welcome table at each meeting. Please see Jo Loder if you have questions or are interested in signing up! Final payment of the full amount is due by December 1st.
2. We will hold a second workshop ... [for the fundraiser project at the November 16th Meeting].
3. The Allamanda Quilters Holiday Luncheon is scheduled for November 30th. It is being catered by Red Sauce, and the cost is $15. Please see Dee Dean for additional information or to pay for your reservation. There will be no quilt meeting that day.
4. 2011 dues of $20 are due to Janice Tingle by December 1st. Please make your check payable to Allamanda Quilters. After paying your dues, you will receive your 2011 Guild membership card, as well as 6 tickets for the donation quilt drawing to be held at the Showcase. Your 2011 Guild membership card is required for free entrance to the Showcase in January.
5. Micki MacCumbee provided free-motion quilting instruction and tips to the members who have been making the block-of-the-month project she's been running.
6. If any member has a technique or workshop idea that they would like to share at a future meeting, please contact Sharon Musch at one of our meetings or send her an email at sharonmusch@comcast.net. We have had many interesting programs in the past, such as the chenille potholders project and the recent label workshop. We're open to anything, so please step up and share your knowledge with the rest of the group!
7. The Guild's Christmas Party will be held during the December 7th meeting (7 p.m. at Laurel Manor). You need to sign the list on the welcome table if you are interested in attending the party, and you would need to bring an appetizer or dessert that serves 8 people. The cut-off date to sign-up for the party is November 30th. Sharon Musch will let Carolyn Heald know how many from Allamanda Quilters plan to attend after that date.
8. Members voted on officers for the Vice President and Secretary positions for the 2011-2012 terms. Sharon Musch will be the Vice President, and Cathy Barlow will be the Secretary.
NEW BUSINESS
1. The Guild provides a $250 grant to individual chapters, but we need to submit our paperwork and explain what we would do with the grant money. Sharon Hannahs volunteered to gather ideas and complete the paperwork for our chapter.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. BJ Herter is selling tickets for the hand-quilted Baltimore Album quilt being raffled by her guild in Pennsylvania. A picture of the quilt is on the bulletin board at the welcome table. Please see her at a future meeting if you're interested in tickets.
2. Jo Loder showed a quilt she made and hand-quilted that is being raffled off by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The drawing is scheduled for December 4th, and all the money from the raffle will go toward scholarships for deserving young women. Tickets are $3 each or two for $5. Please see Jo at future meetings to purchase tickets.
3. Janice announced that she has 2011 membership cards and donation quilt tickets for anyone who has paid their 2011 dues. Please see her to pick up your envelope.
4. Cathy Barlow mentioned that a local travel agent is planning a bus trip to Paducah to visit the museum, as well as Hancock Fabric. There are also other activities planned in the Paducah area. A flyer with additional information about the trip is posted on the bulletin board at the welcome table. Please take one if you are interested.
5. Carol Fox mentioned that it might be nice to have a bin where we could bring in scraps of fabric that are usable for something like appliqué but that we no longer want or need. Any member would be welcome to rummage through the bin and take what they need. She is going to coordinate this new venture.
6. Marlene Jensch has several quilting related books that she is willing to donate to a lending library program for our chapter. She is going to organize this effort.
Several beautiful items were shared with the group during the show-and-tell time. Check out the pictures when they're up on our website! We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creativity of our members! We also had a cameraman from The Villages VMail visit today, so look for our chapter in the next email newsletter from The Villages!
Carol Fox moved that we adjourn the meeting. Dee Dean seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
